Haiti, My Beloved Land, submission by Edwige

Haiti, land of sufferings
My beloved, robbed and betrayed land
I bear your wounds
In all of the corners of my heart
My soul and my mind.
Your shadow follows me
Everywhere,
It is haunting me everywhere
In my readings, in my writings
In my dreams …
You come every night
Dancing in my dreams
With your beaten, bruised and mutilated body.
Haiti, ailing land
Your cries stab me everywhere,
In my eardrums, my heart, my soul
And my conscience,
And forge the path of my existence.
Haiti, my resilient land,
My forbearing land,
How long will you be despised, humiliated
Abandoned and betrayed
By your own sons?
